The License Qualifying Program is geared toward those Master's level individuals interested in entering the mental health field, who desire a rigorous course of study and clinical training in psychoanalysis and comprehensive psychotherapy. Successful completion of this program leads to qualification for New York State licensure in psychoanalysis as well as a certificate of psychoanalysis from NIP.
An individualized study plan is developed for each incoming candidate. A preliminary year of study is offered to candidates new to the mental health field with weekend-long courses in Psychopathology, Psychodiagnosis and Ethics, Sociocultural Influences on Growth and Psychopathology, Psychoanalytic Research Methodology and a seminar on Child Abuse Detection and Reporting. A one year-long case seminar also takes place on Tuesday evenings. Candidates will treat patients from the NIP Treatment Center under the guidance of an individual supervisor.
Upon completion of the preliminary year, candidates may apply for acceptance and integration into the Training Program in Adult Psychoanalysis and Comprehensive Psychotherapy. Candidates must participate in individual psychoanalysis at a minimum of two sessions per week with an Institute approved psychoanalyst.
