The Institute For The Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity
The IPSS Program

The requirements of the program include a personal psychoanalysis with an approved analyst, the conduct of psychoanalytic treatments under the supervision of faculty members, and coursework over a span of four years. The coursework consists of two or three courses per semester over the four years. To fulfill their clinical requirement, candidates provide psychoanalytic treatment under supervision of three different patients, each of whom is seen at least three times a week for a minimum of one year. Supervised patients are seen within the candidate's private practice or an equivalent setting. A scholarly paper of publishable quality that advances psychoanalytic knowledge is a final requirement for certification.

Certification

With the completion of all required coursework, scholarly paper, supervision, clinical work, and personal psychoanalysis, the candidate will be recommended for certification. The final decision regarding each candidate's suitability for certification rests with the Institute's Core Faculty. Upon their approval, a Certificate in Psychoanalysis will be awarded by the Institute for the Psychoanalytic Study of Subjectivity, an affiliate of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies Training Institute.
