What is the orientation of the program? [ Return to Top ]

NTP offers intensive comparative study of psychoanalytic theory and technique, building on a foundation of classical theory, with an emphasis on contemporary relational models including Object Relations, Self Psychology, Intersubjectivity and Interpersonal Psychoanalysis.

There are 6 seminars per academic year. Each seminar meets for intensive 3-day weekends (Friday until Sunday), for approximately 21 hours.

What are the supervision requirements? [ Return to Top ]

Supervision is conducted primarily via telephone with a supervisor approved by NTP (see Faculty/Supervisors list). One individual supervisory hour is required each week for a minimum of 40 sessions per year. During the course of the training period, candidates must be supervised by a minimum of three different supervisors, for a total of at least 160 hours.

What is the requirement for personal psychoanalysis? [ Return to Top ]

The program requires that the candidate be in treatment a minimum of two times per week (three sessions per week is recommended) with a certified psychoanalyst, who is accredited by a four-year psychoanalytic training program and has five years of subsequent experience. The candidate is free to choose his or her own analyst, who must be approved by the Training Committee.

Tuition is $590. per seminar, and there are 6 seminars each year for 4 years. Supervisory fees are uniformly set at $90. per supervisory session. Candidates pay the cost of their personal psychoanalysis, as well as telephone and travel expenses.
