About The Professional Assocation

The Professional Association of the National Institute for the Psychotherapies was founded in 1982 and has grown from an informal group of graduates into a comprehensive organization of NIP TI alumni, trustees, board members, program directors, supervisors, faculty, and candidates. The mission of the NIP Professional Association is threefold. It promotes the continued professional development of its members by sponsoring academic events. It furthers the sense of community developed at the Institute by providing ongoing social and networking opportunities. And, finally, it maintains a relationship with NIP TI that mutually enhances and expands the resources and influences of both.

The NIP Professional Association offers many exciting academic programs and social events throughout the year. The much anticipated Annual Fall Colloquium and Brunch, which marks the start of the academic year, combines a presentation by an esteemed NIP TI colleague on a topic of contemporary clinical significance with an informal, social brunch. The Focus Series, a sequence of seminars presented throughout the academic year, offers NIP Professional Association members an opportunity to present original papers, works in progress, or compelling case studies. Both of these events provide the opportunity for candidates and the larger NIP TI community to share ideas and to socialize in an intimate, collegial setting.

The NIP Professional Association also sponsors a Mentor Program for candidates, an in-house psychoanalytic publication, Psychoanalytic Perspectives, offers discounts on several psychoanalytic journals, a membership directory, a Spring Celebration picnic, a Dinner & Theater Party, and other social events throughout the year. The NIP Professional Association co-sponsors an annual fundraising event with NIP TI and the NIP Professional Association as well as the Annual Conference. A new benefit to membership in NIP PA is the ListServ, which allows email communication to all members. It is a great tool to find or rent space, as well as helping clinicians with out of state referral needs.
