Supervisory Training Program
Supervisory Training Program

This program provides a unique opportunity for certified graduates of postgraduate programs in psychoanalysis and psychotherapy to develop their skills as supervisors in a controlled setting. It is designed to further the professional's career by moving the analyst in a systematic way from the role of practitioner to the role of the practitioner/teacher.

In keeping with the comprehensive approach of NIP TI, the Supervisory Training Program is psychodynamically oriented in its broadest sense, incorporating contemporary developments in analytic theory such as object relations, self psychology and the interpersonal school of psychoanalysis.

The program involves one year of study, which consists of:

  • A weekly one hour-and-a-half focused on theoretical discussion and actual seminar experience literature and includes supervisory process and weekly readings
  • Weekly group supervision of one hour-and-a-half in length during which candidates present their supervisory Work
  • Supervision by the supervisor-in-training of two candidates in the Psychoanalytic and Comprehensive Psychotherapy Training Program
  • Participation in the twice-yearly evaluation process of candidates at Supervisor and Faculty meetings

The weekly seminar is divided into two semesters of 15 sessions each, while the weekly group supervision lasts throughout the supervisory year. A maximum of twelve are admitted to each class in order to facilitate an atmosphere in which the complex supervisory process can be discussed in depth.

Tuition is $650.00 per semester, plus a $55.00 registration fee. Group supervision is $55.00 per session.

The program is open to graduates of recognized postgraduate training institutes and includes psychologists, social workers, and psychiatrists.
